The reputable-store checklist
| Check | Why it matters | SubSell |
|---|---|---|
| A real address you can walk into | You know who you are dealing with, and where to find them later | 757 Rue Beaubien East, 30 seconds from Métro Beaubien |
| Years in business | Fly-by-night buyers do not last | Same address since 2017, 50,000+ transactions |
| Lots of recent reviews | A few glowing reviews prove little; hundreds over years do | 1,700+ Google reviews at 4.9/5 |
| Photo ID asked | The law requires it for used goods; it keeps stolen phones out | Always |
| A stolen-phone check | You do not want to buy from, or compete with, thieves | Every phone checked against stolen-phone databases |
| A firm price, paid on the spot | No “we’ll call you” once your phone is in their hands | Cash in store, after a 5-minute check |
| A receipt | Proof of the sale, for you and for them | With every sale |
| What happens to your data | Your photos and accounts should not leave with the phone | Professional erasure software before any resale |
Questions to ask any shop
- Do you publish your prices, and is the price firm once you have checked the phone?
- Do you pay cash, or store credit?
- Do I need an appointment?
- What do you do with my data?
- What should I bring? Here: the phone signed out of iCloud with Find My off, and a photo ID. The charger or box are welcome but not required.
Why reputable matters even more for an iPhone
iPhones hold their value, which makes them a target for theft and resale fraud. A shop that checks the IMEI and asks for ID protects you twice: your sale is done by the book, and the refurbished iPhone you might buy later was not stolen from someone else.
SubSell is a family-run neighbourhood shop: when you call or write, the shop answers, in French or English. No call centre. See the buyback price of every model, or how to find us.
